Although it was a good idea, in theory, our writing project for adopted Koreans living in Korea is going to have to wait until we have a larger population living here to participate. We just did not get enough interest or submissions. So as a lovely memory of the sincere effort we made, check out our sole writing weekend on Tanguy Verraes' blog. Tanguy is a Belgian Francophone. Fire (Feu) !! Un atelier d'écriture créatif destiné aux adopté(e)s coréen(ne)s en français et en anglais --Please scroll down for English-- Organisateurs: Jane Jeong Trenka (Américaine), et Damien Calmés (Français) Désir de sortir de Séoul pour une aventure contemplative en province? Vous souhaitez passer du temps au milieu des arbres, de l'eau et du ciel bleu? Alors venez à notre atelier d'écriture qui se déroulera le week-end du 14-15 et 16 juillet 2006 à Nonsan, une ville située à 150 kilomètres au sud de Séoul. Nous avons choisi le nom Fire (Feu) !! pour notre atelier d'écriture à cause de sa signification matérielle et symbolique dans notre vie. L'adoption coréenne a commencé après une guerre où une péninsule entière fut bombardée et brûlée. Dix ans plus tard, à combien d'entre nous, il nous a été dit que les dossiers contenant nos identités et nos histoires avaient été brûlés dans un feu ? Le feu est associé au Phénix: un oiseau de destruction et de renaissance. Le feu est le symbole de la purification; votre expérience en Corée peut avoir débuté comme un "baptême par le feu". Le feu nous donne la lumière et la chaleur. Vous avez peut-être expérimenté le feu de la créativité, le feu de l'amour ou de la colère et "la maladie de la rage". Le feu hypnotise les gens qui le regardent; il nous donne l'occasion de rêver et de réfléchir. Vous avez pu être été accusé de mentir sur votre expérience. Et à la différence de l'eau qui coule vers le bas, le feu tend vers le haut. Nous, les adoptés, nous nous dirigeons aussi ensemble vers le haut. Vous avez une histoire à raconter... à partager... Vous aimeriez apprendre à écrire ou améliorer votre style...Venez à notre atelier d'écriture. Nous vous aiderons à rédiger votre histoire en vous proposant différentes techniques d'écriture et en vous donnant un compte-rendu de vos écrits. Nous partagerons nos écrits et le plaisir d'écrire ensemble. Le révérend Kim et Koroot ont la gentillesse de subventionner ce projet pour un nombre total de six adoptés ( Trois adoptés maximum, ayant pour langue maternelle le français, seront retenus). Il s'agit d'un atelier d'écriture "intensif", ce qui signifie que les activités seront en priorité tournées vers l'exercice d'écriture. Bien entendu, vous n'avez pas besoin d'être expérimenté. Et bien évidemment, les passionnés du genre sont aussi les bienvenus. Pour cet atelier d'écriture, le critère de sélection est simple: seules les premières personnes à se manifester seront retenues. Sa maison a aujourd'hui plus de 300 ans. Elle est toujours entretenue par ses descendants. Nous utiliserons le salon donnant sur l'étang adjacent aux chambres du père et du grand-père. Deux chambres seront a notre disposition, une pour les hommes et une autre pour les femmes. Les couvertures et les matelas sont fournis par le propriétaire. Fire!! Creative Writing Workshop & Retreat--for Korean adoptees writing in French and English Facilitators: Jane Trenka (English), and Damien Calmés (French) Want to get out of Seoul for a contemplative, all-expense paid trip to the clean and beautiful countryside?? Do you want to spend some time with trees, water, and blue skies? Then please come to our Creative Writing Workshop & Retreat the weekend of July 14-15-16, 2 hours south of Seoul near Nonsan. We choose the name Fire!! for our writing workshop because of its significance both material and symbolic in our lives. Korean adoption began after a war in which a whole peninsula was bombed and burned. Decades later, how many of us have been told that our records containing our identities and histories were burned in a fire? Fire is associated with the phoenix: a bird of destruction and rebirth. Fire is symbolic of purification; your experience in Korea may have started as a “baptism by fire.” Fire gives us light and heat—the cozy hearth fire of your friends. You might have experienced the fire of creativity, the fire of love, or the fire of anger and “anger disease.” People who watch fire become slightly hypnotized by it; fire gives us an opportunity for reverie and reflection. You may have been accused of lying about your experience—are your pants still on fire? And, unlike water, which flows downward, fire moves upward. We adoptees are also moving upward together. You have a story to tell! If you would like support, feedback, and an opportunity to improve your writing skills, please come to our writing workshop/retreat. We will share our writing and enjoy learning together. Who is welcome? All adoptees currently living in Korea may participate. Your level of experience or skill does not matter—only your level of interest. People writing in any genre are welcome. Fee: Free for all participants Number of participants: 3 people writing in English; 3 people writing in French. The trip is first-come, first-served. Deadline for reservation: June 25. His yangban (nobleman's) house is 300 years old. It is run by his descendant, who is Yoon Jeung's 13th generation grandson. We will use the sitting room overlooking the pond adjacent to the “grandfather room” and the “father room.” There are 2 sleeping rooms, one for men and one for women. Blankets and pillows provided. There's a modern shared shower and toilet—one for men and one for women. Other available facilities: modern tea house, pavilion, and historic sites within walking distance.
